How do we keep children safe at Nottingham Nursery?

Work with children:

We regularly talk to the children the importance of staying safe with the children through taught sessions and continuous provision. We use the NSPCC resources to deliver age appropriate content, including the use of Talk PANTS. The children at nursery develop trusting relationships with their key adults and they know that they will be listened to.

Work with the staff:

The headteachers in school are trained to deliver safeguarding training. They deliver annual safeguarding training with staff in response to Keeping Children Safe in Education. This is the document that underpins all our safeguarding work, and all our staff members have read and understood their roles and responsibilities. All training is logged using the Single Central Record.

The safeguarding team:

Our DSLs meet fortnightly to discuss priority cases. DSLs attend the Nottingham City networks termly to ensure their knowledge is kept current. Every two years, they complete their refresher training.

Work with parents and carers:

We build good relationships with parents and carers to ensure that they understand that our role is to work in partnership with them to safeguard children. Any parent or carer can report a concern to the safeguarding team and know  the issue will be dealt with appropriately.

Work with external bodies:

As well as supporting the children in school, we do also offer support and guidance to parents who need help in the home or with specific concerns, this might involve making a Multi Agency Referral to Children and Families Direct who can then signpost the most relevant external support.

If you have any questions regarding safeguarding, our role as a team in the school or would like to know more about a specific issue please do not hesitate to get in  touch.
